Q3.
What was the most impressive experience you experienced this year?
There were two especially good experiences for me this year - Fusion Festival and ADM Festival.
Fusion is an independently run music festival in Germany. I have some history with the place, as I lived in Berlin for many years - and played there several times. This year things seem to have changed... Both within the organization, and the general vibe of the crowd. It's probably been a gradual shift, but I've been away for a while - so the change seemed profound to me. This year out in the world, dystopia and apocalypse feels very close - and as such, Fusion's longtime goal of creating a temporary utopia resonated in a powerful way. The people of Berlin are now a sort of bloc - a large diaspora force of creative weirdos from all over the world - and playing in such a place was profound experience, and after a long time away fromit was very heartening to bring the sounds for kindred spirits again.
I also rediscovered my love for analog photography on this trip, and it set me back a new/old path which is really rewarding. I've since been shooting film on a variety of different cameras across the spectrum from high to low-fi, and it reawakened this part of me which had been lost ages ago with the switch to digital.
ADM Festival in Amsterdam was the other excellent experience. It felt like a continuation of Fusion Festival, an autonomous / utopian space existing against all odds. ADM is a long-running artist squat in Amsterdam, a gigantic complex of warehouses and caravans which has been existing for 21 years. Every year they produce a music festival with incredible scope and variety. There are all sorts of kinetic art sculptures - a feeling of otherworldliness. This year there was even an off-grid stage powered by renewable energy and bicycles. To play music in these places and to connect with the folks there - it feels meaningful in a profound way - it makes you feel like you're doing good work. Unfortunately it looks like the space will have to close soon - which makes me all the more grateful to have played there.
Q4.
How was this year for you?
It was a rough year, but good, progressing with the next drumcorps album, and writing lots of jungle tunes, preparing some ambient as well. It feels like my creative & production powers are going super strong - there's less of the wild searching & more knowing and finishing. The task now, with the changes in the scene & the untimely demise of my longtime label, is finding the next good outlet for all of this, to release it to the best of its abilities. I've mostly been in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Some folks from ADM graciously gave me a recycled bicycle, which they saved from the trash and welded back together, and when not making music, I've been riding around town with greatest enthusiasm, ringing the bell, taking photos, and being generally inspired & active.

Q1.
What was the best music pieces for you this year?
I enjoyed new music by the Daughters, Guided By Voices, Azusa, Ryley Walker, the resurrected tapes from John Coltrane (bought the double LP with all multiple takes), Jamie Saft solo a Genova, and Jamie Saft Quartet: Blue Dream. The Daniel Lanois / Venetian Snares album is probably the most mind-blowing thing I heard both live and on record. I wish I would keep up more with the current happening in music, but I am more a second hand store guy, and most of the stuff I buy are from decades back. If there is anything I missed, hit me up with recommendations.
Q2.
What was the best thing about Work of art such as movies, books, TV shows/Documentary,etc you saw this year?
I saw the Lee Morgan documentary I Called Him Morgan, which to me is one of the greatest films of all time. So is the Milford Graves documentary, Full Mantis. I loved every second of the Tales From The Tour Bus series, and the Jim Jarmusch movie Paterson.
As for books:
-Matthew Cutter: Closer You Are - the story of Robert Pollard and Guided By Voices
-Tero Ikaheimonen: The Devils Cradle - The story of Finnish Black Metal
-Duncan Barlow: Of Flesh And Fur
-Duncan Barlow: The City, Awake
-John Corbett: Love Letters to a Dying Medium
-Mats Gustafsson: Discaholics pt. 1
-Brad Scarface Jordan: Diary Of a Madman
-Osato Toshiharu: Gaseneta Wasteland
-Sybil Rosen: Living in the Woods in a Tree - remembering Blaze Foley
-Jaron Lanier: Ten Arguments For Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now
-Erika T. Wurth: Buckskin Cocaine
I’ve read a bunch more books in Hungarian, these are the ones available in English.
Q3.
What was the most impressive experience you experienced this year?
Playing Roadburn, FIMAV in Victoriaville, and in general touring Japan. Starting the year with recording with Jim Jarmusch, Lee Renaldo and Marc Urselli was an incredible kick off (record out soon on Trost Records), and then recording albums with Keiji Haino and Merzbow, Mats Gustafsson and Merzbow, playing a high impact gig with KK Null in Tokyo, seeing Phurpha a couple times, scoring an original copy of Nommo by Milord Graves / Don Pullen, some original Sun Ra records with hand drawn covers, I could go on forever.
Q4.
How was this year for you?
Its been insane on both ends. The shitty parts were really shitty, but the good parts truly exciting. I have about 14 records coming out next year, and thats not even the end of it. Also playing a duo by chance with my dear friend Attila Csihar, that we plan to turn into a band. I am looking forward to next year.
We lost many great innovators, but most likely the passing of Cecil Taylor was the most intense one. I am bummed I never got to see him, but my record shelves are about the crack under the weight of his records, so looking forward to many many years of listening, and rediscovering his music.
Q5.
What’s your new year’s resolutions?
I am not really good at resolutions, also I think I made the necessary changes I had to, so I am ok with my life as it is, and I try to be ok with myself as I am. I stopped drinking alcohol completely, even though I never drink on tour anyway. That’s the last change I’ve made, people have to deal with the rest.

Q1.
What was the best music pieces for you this year?
Well, actually I discovered a lot of ‘new’ old stuff this year. The well of music is endless, so I keep discovering things. If I just heard something that was already released in the 70’s, it’s fresh for 2018 you know. I’ve missed a lot of the things that were released this year, because I still like to get into whole albums and many artists today don’t do albums a lot, just single tracks and I don’t use iTunes or Spotify.
Also, I can’t really make a top 10 list, because ‘the best’ almost changes with each day.
Q2.
What was the best thing about Work of art such as movies, books, TV shows/Documentary/Game,etc you saw this year?
Damn, I thought I had this question, but it seems that most of the stuff that I wanted to mention was released in 2017. Haha. I’m a year behind!I liked the ‘Wild, wild country’ documentary. That was 2018 right? I’ll take notes in 2019…
Q3.
What was the most impressive experience you experienced this year?
I’m very fortunate to say that I’ve had many impressive experiences of all types this year. One that stands out though, was my visit to Japan again. On top of that I’ve had a crazy romantic evening with a local girl, drinking plum sake while looking over Tokyo at night from my 28th floor window.
Q4.
How was this year for you?
This year was incredible. I did many shows with different projects, performed in front of 30 and 30.000 people, made a few soundtracks for films, worked on a lot of music and designed many record covers for other artists. Beside the trips abroad, where I’ve met many great people, at home I kinda locked myself up in the studio most of this year. Like a non communicative retard I was working on stuff like a maniac. In 2017 I wondered how I could top that year, but I think I got pretty close.
Q5.
What’s your new year’s resolutions?
Well, since 2018 was a very productive year, hopefully next year I will pick the fruits of that. There will be new Deformer stuff coming out as well as a few side projects that I’ve worked on. I’m also very excited about a soundtrack that I’ve made for an American documentary about one of my favorite Rap groups. And new stuff for Murder Channel :-) Maybe next year I’ll get my first smartphone. I’ve extended my friendships and banned all negative people from my life in the meantime, so I think 2019 is gonna start off well… Let’s all have some fun!
